Meet Nicole Grycan, VP Commercialization at Phil

Nicole spotlight

We are thrilled to have our VP of Commercialization, Nicole Grycan, share her personal journey with us in our next employee spotlight. Nicole’s industry expertise is instrumental in our mission to help people get their medications quickly, easily, and affordably.

Tell me a little bit about yourself and what you do at Phil.

I recently joined the Phil team as VP of Commercialization. I’ve spent 20 years in the pharmaceutical industry, which is wild because it feels like I just graduated from college! For 12 years, I worked on the agency side and then spent 8 years with Cover My Meds supporting prior authorization. At Phil, I play a big part in working with our clients to improve the end-to-end experience for patients, helping them get the therapies their doctors prescribe quickly and affordably.

What inspired you to take on your current role?

I was at a point in my life where I was ready for a change. In my previous role, I felt like I had accomplished the work that needed to be done. Phil’s mission of helping patients unlock access to therapy by ensuring the script written is the script dispensed really spoke to me. I was ready to step into a startup environment that’s still evolving, which I find exciting because not everything is set in stone so there’s room for growth and innovation. It was an opportunity to roll up my sleeves, try things, fail fast, and learn and grow from the experience.

What do you like best about your job?

Every day is different. It's exciting to feel like you are part of shaping something bigger than yourself. Everything hasn't been decided at Phil yet, which is appealing because there's an opportunity to put my stamp on it and grow and evolve with the company. The people are also a big part of that. There are a lot of smart people who work here, and I am proud to be among them.

I love that we're driven to help patients, providers, and pharmaceutical companies work together to make it easier for patients to get started on therapy. There's something powerful in that. Our platform and the data we have access to allow us to provide actionable insights to pharmaceutical teams so they can strategically intervene to make the access process easier for patients and providers.

What do you find challenging about your job?

Finding the time to do all the things that I want to do! There's so much opportunity to do things here at Phil and do them well. I don't know how to spin it another way, but there are many exciting projects and not enough hours in the day to get to them all.

On a personal note, how do you like to spend a day off from work?

In my free time, I'm 100% about being outside, getting some fresh air, and spending time with my family, whether going for a walk, having a date night with my husband, or attending my kids' sporting events.

Can you share a recent project or activity you've been passionate about?

My passion is my kids, so my free time is consumed with whatever they're up to at the moment. For my daughter, it's swimming; for my son, it's hockey and basketball.

Supporting my daughter's swim team this whole season has been incredibly inspiring. They started in the fall, and she set a goal for herself. And we've watched her exceed that goal. It's been amazing to sit back and be a swim mom and swim dad, and we're there volunteering and cheering her on. Her brother has also been really supportive, so we've all been in it together as a family.
